Relative and restaurants

Does this sweet young lady look familiar to anyone? We were so excited to see Amy, Gary's niece who is Ed and Terri's daughter. She has taught English to children for 3 1/2 years  in Chengdu which is in southwestern China. She was only able to stay overnight before she went back but it was great to see her!

We took the ferry across Victoria Harbor to go to Big Bite which is a great hamburger place.  Amy was happy to get a little Western food for a change.

This place even has A&W root-beer floats.  The only thing weird about them is that they put ice cubes in the floats, too.

We were happy to see you, dear Amy, and we hope you can come back again to visit sometime.

In other happenings, can anyone tell us what this billboard means because we don't know. Could it be an army recruiting poster?

Here's Elder Chandler at Tsim Sha Tsui where we went to Outback for dinner one night.  It is a pretty busy part of the city where many of the tourists go, too.

There is a Mosque at Tsim Sha Tsui if you care to read about it, click on the link.

The bloomin' onion was great but full of cholesterol.  We feel okay about it, though, because it has been a very long time since we last had one and we were celebrating our 1/4 of the way through our mission.

The salad was great as it had lots of Quinoa and it was very healthy.  The server asked us how to pronounce the name of it as she thought we should know how.  In case anyone is wondering, it is Keen wah.  Quinoa

Elder Chandler had a little seafood pasta and he liked it a lot.

Back to work: this sister gave her business presentation at the self-reliance class and told us that she has helped fund her brother to start a sofa repair business in the Philippines. This wasn't easy for her as the pay is very low (but high compared to the Philippines) for a domestic helper but she saved and saved and was able to do this.

As you can see from her cash flow chart, the business is doing well and she said that she will soon be going home permanently to help him with the business.  Isn't that wonderful?

Here's the other members of the group who have wonderful stories of their planned businesses, too.  Right now there are about ten groups who are meeting in our English speaking district.

Here's our Friday night group last night.  They are about half-way through their self-reliance course. There are sisters who have businesses, some who had businesses that failed and can now see why, and sisters who are planning now for their future. Even if they only learn budgeting and good foundation principles that will help them through their lives, this free course offered by the Church is really worthwhile for them to attend.

We really enjoy working with the sisters here. In addition to our self-reliance assignments, we now have the assignment to be in church with different groups on Thursdays and Fridays and Sundays. This Thursday and Friday Elder Chandler conducted sacrament meeting. Sister Chandler taught Sunday School because the employer of the sister who was assigned to teach made her work on her day off. Here's an old article that was published about the Everyday branch in Hong Kong if you care to read it: Everyday Branch

Isn't this cross-stitch beautiful?

This is Susan and she said it only took her a couple of months to complete this in her free time which she doesn't have.  It is many, many hours of work.  She is now doing this to earn extra money, too. She also has a good produce business in the Philippines that she started so you can see that she is working for her future and her family's future, too.

Speaking of restaurants, maybe you would like to go to Cinta with us sometime as this is a little Filipino place where we have bought lunch.  We haven't tried the pigs' ears or pigs' intestines yet, or even the sauteed morning glory so we'll have to go back if we want to try these delicacies.

Here we are at the food-court at the local mall.

Dumplings and hot and spicy soup--Elder Chandler's favorite!  And he's good with chopsticks.
Maybe there's something here that we want to try?

Going home on the train; Be it ever so humble, there's no place like Hunghom.  Have a great weekend everyone!
