Young missionaries etc.

We get these alerts on our phones all of the time but there usually aren't four alerts at the same time!

Going to English class on Thursday, we decided to take the bus instead of the train, and on getting off we saw this nice view of the Kowloon Tong chapel where we teach. The chapel is just across the street from the Hong Kong temple.

Here we are with Joey who was a member of our English class. He will be leaving to serve his mission in Brisbane, Australia but Elder Fung's (Joey's) visa hasn't arrived yet so he began his mission this week in Macau until his visa arrives.

Here are some of the men from our English class, Peter, Elder Chandler, Brigham Yeung (yes, Brigham Young!), Joey, and Michael. They all hope to go to BYU Hawaii or BYU Provo but Joey wants to serve his mission first before he goes.

This is Allie who is also in our English class and who will be serving a mission to Temple Square in Salt Lake City in a month or so.  She decided to do a mini 2-week mission with the sister missionaries here in Hong Kong first.  The youth in the ward where she is assigned were having a water fight in the church parking lot for their activity so the missionaries were able to join in.

Here are some of the young sweet sister missionaries who are from the Philippines and serve here in Hong Kong. One of their investigators is pictured second from the left. Sister Amimita pictured on the right side of the photo has just finished her mission and is going home.

Another day as we were waiting for the ferry to go home from Hong Kong Island, we saw some young kids fishing and they kept catching tiny little fish and releasing them back into the harbor. 

They were using blood worms that were kind of jumping around in sort of an attack fashion.  These are not like the placid worms we're used to seeing. They really have jerky movements and some people are highly allergic to them.

We've searched and searched but can't find out the names of the tiny fish the boys were catching and releasing. They were handling them with little tongs and not touching them so maybe they are poisonous.

The fish kind of looked like this fish shown above so we're wondering why this person is holding it barehanded.

There is a fish market located right by the ferry, too.

The signs are great, aren't they?

As we were crossing Victoria Harbor there was a beautiful sunset but we didn't quite catch it in a photo before it was gone.

As we were walking back to our apartment we took a few more photos

Also, on the walk home from the ferry there are some beautiful Plumerias and other flowers to see and smell.

Here we are back to "home sweet home" or is it Hung "sweet" Hom?

Our apartment is on the 12th floor.

They have lots of guards there in and around the apartments who are from Indonesia but they probably really don't need them.

Here's the promenade which is in front of our apartment and right on the harbor.  Lots of people of all ages come out at night to run and walk and play along here. Actually, there are lots of people out on the promenade both day and night.

There's even a cleaning lady who cleans all of the rails along the promenade every night.

Also, the trees are always lit up in front of the apartments.

Shopping

We like to go shopping at the different "wet markets".  There are good fruits and vegetables and interesting people there.

This "silver fish" advertisement at this restaurant looks delicious, doesn't it?  We're sure that you realize that Silver fish are actually bugs.

Elder Chandler likes the fact that watermelon don't have a ridiculously high price like Japan here.

At the "wet market" the meat shops are everywhere and they are all outdoors.

Would you like a garbage can hooked on to your bike?

Or how about a big basket?

Now we are at TST

Across the street there is the Chungking Mansions.  This is an Indian shopping center which also has some pretty good Indian restaurants, too.  All through this area are Indian men on the streets handing out business cards and trying to get people to go to their restaurants, buy their homemade suits, etc.

We've had a few rides on these mini-buses.  They always have wild fast drivers.  One of the van's routes from the Adventist hospital is going down a steep hill at a breakneck pace.  It is interesting that all the bars that people can hold onto in that bus have been ripped off or are hanging on only by a little bit because of the wild rides.

Here we are at another real mall.  The malls here are really big and beautiful. Our grandchildren would enjoy the malls here, too. We actually just came here to find a good hamburger and fries.

Of course the jewelry stores have the ever present thick gold jewelry. 

Anybody need anything at 7-Eleven?

Chocolates sound good, also.

The children and families were having a wonderful time ice skating there, too.

We were so happy because they even have milkshakes which are very hard to find here.

The little children especially make us miss our grandchildren

Here's another of a sweet sister who was baptized last Sunday. Elder Taylor baptized her and Elder Chandler confirmed her a member of the church. Elder Chandler also conducted the baptism, conducted Sacrament Meeting, conducted Priesthood meetings, presided and presented a family home evening message at our family home evening and also had interviews with many of the sisters the same day.  We have a new Branch President, President Smith, but he travels frequently so Elder Chandler still has most of the responsibilities for our Branch as he is also the only counselor right now.

She wanted to bear her testimony at the baptism and she said that one of the reasons she wanted to have the lessons and then join the church was because of the sweet peaceful spirit that she felt when she attended church here which she said she had never felt before.
